Park Sensei has been teaching Judo, Kendo, Iaido, and Jujitsu in Indianapolis since 1967, instructing a range of individuals from youth to senior in the Japanese martial arts. His dojo, Mudokwan, is considered one of the oldest dojos in Indianapolis. All classes are overseen and instructed by Park Sensei, with assistance from senior students and visiting instructors.
Classes are designed not only for self-defense but for a balance and harmony of mind, body, and spirit. At the end of each class, students sit in Zen meditation for 10 minutes—building peace of mind, relieving stress, and strengthening mental endurance.
Seven disciplines rooted in centuries of Japanese tradition, taught with authenticity and respect.
Jujitsu
Evolved from the ancient Samurai methods, Jujitsu uses pins, throws, joint locks, and the principle of using an opponent's momentum against them. Taught armed and unarmed, encompassing the five pillars of training.
Judo
Both a martial art and Olympic combat sport originating in Japan in the late 1800s. Marked by throws, immobilization, and submission through grapples, pins, locks, chokes, and strangleholds.
Kendo
An art of sword-fighting based on Japanese swordsmanship, both physically and mentally challenging. Using practice swords and armor, strikes are performed at full force without injury. The practitioner trains the mind against anger, fear, surprise, and doubt.
Iaido
The mastery of smooth, controlled movements drawing the sword from its scabbard. Sometimes called "moving Zen" for the mental concentration required. Practice focuses on the perfection of a controlled and fluid motion.
Kyudo
Japanese archery dating back over two millennia. When the technique is perfect, the arrow hits the target without fail. Practiced mostly as sport, guided by ideas of ethical and spiritual development.
Zen Meditation
Simple sitting, right breathing, and correct Zen posture for building peace of mind, relieving stress, and strengthening mental endurance. Practiced at the end of each class. No religious affiliation.

"This place has changed my life in every way. I am physically and mentally stronger than I ever have been thanks to Mudokwan."
"I began my Judo instruction at Mudokwan when I was 12 years old. The year was 1972 and Sensei Young H Park was my instructor. Sensei Park gave me confidence in myself and taught me discipline. I am 62 now and often think of the people who were positive influences in my life. Sensei Park should take pride in knowing he was a positive influence."
"We have been at Park Sensei's dojo for one year for judo and kendo. Our children love their lessons, the other adults and children are great people and the overall feel of the dojo is firm/serious but encouraging. If you are looking for a great place to grow as a martial arts student, you have found the right place."
"Fantastic place to do kendo. Sensei Park and Sensei Smith really get to the heart of kendo, and are always willing to take the time to help me learn and improve. Good class mates also, from 7yo on up, they want to help me get better, which makes a difference."
"After nearly 17 years practicing judo here I can say without a doubt this is the best dojo anywhere. It not only helps you stay in physical condition, but also teaches a great deal of self discipline and respect."
